Nisha Beharie has two decades of research and program experience in the areas of health policy, substance use, homelessness, and mental health. Dr. Beharie specializes in mixed-methods and qualitative research and is passionate about leveraging her research efforts to advocate for and give a voice to marginalized communities of people who use drugs and those experiencing homelessness.

Dr. Beharie is also a former fellow in the Behavioral Sciences Training (BST) program at New York University and was awarded funding by the Center for Drug Use and HIV Research (CDUHR) in 2016 to conduct a pilot study exploring potential points of intervention to better support caregivers and youth residing in family shelters.

Most recently Dr. Beharie was a Senior Research Associate at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in the Bureau of Alcohol, Drug Use, Prevention Care and Treatment where she led research and evaluation initiatives to inform policy and programs related to substance use. In July of 2022, she was appointed as an Assistant Professor at New York Medical College where she currently teaches in the department of Public Health.
