Project dates: September 2019 - September 2024
Co-Investigator: Hagan, Holly
This project implemented a multi-level, community-wide, evidence-based alcohol and opioid prevention program in the Mott Haven neighborhood in the South Bronx.
For youth (9-20 years of age), brief alcohol/substance use screening and counseling were administered and active linkage to services were provided where appropriate.
For families, evidence-based programs for alcohol and substance use prevention were delivered to parents and primary caregivers.
For the community, the first registered Opioid Overdose Prevention Program and substance use resource center was established to dispense naloxone kits and train community members for overdose response; Community Action Teams on underage drinking and opioid use were created; and a community-wide alcohol/substance use prevention/reduction social marketing campaign was launched.
Community-wide impact of the project is being evaluated.
