BIO
Jeffrey Weiss has worked for over 24 years in the US and Europe as a clinical psychologist providing care to persons with infectious diseases and conducting research on how behavioral interventions can improve their quality and length of life. As Director of the Hepatitis C Research and Clinical Programs in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, he works closely with colleagues from the Divisions of Liver Diseases to improve the care and treatment of HCV patients at their institution, develop innovative tools, and conduct interdisciplinary research. Dr. Weiss and Dr. Perumalswami co-direct the HepCure project (hepcure.org), a web-based tele-education resource to increase the capacity of primary care providers to conduct Hepatitis C treatment and engage patients in the treatment process through a patient app. In collaboration with the NYC Hepatitis C Task Force, he developed the Psychosocial Readiness Evaluation and Preparation for Hepatitis C Treatment (PREP-C;prepc.org) a structured clinical assessment to evaluate potential barriers to hepatitis C treatment adherence and develop a treatment plan to address them. He is funded by NIMH to study whether a four-session PREP-C based nurse administered intevention can increase rates of HCV treatment initiation among patients with HIV/HCV-co-infection.
Projects
Principal Investigator, Effects of Mindfulness Training on Chronic Inflammation in HIV-Infected Adults. Completed
Principal Investigator, Intervention to Improve HCV Treatment Uptake and Adherence in HIV/HCV Coinfection. Completed
