This study implemented Families Talking Together (FTT), a parent-based intervention demonstrated to promote adolescent sexual risk avoidance that is medically accurate, culturally tailored, and age-appropriate. Furthermore, the study enhanced the FTT curriculum to formally address adolescent future life opportunities via linkage to community resources that actively promote success sequencing and positive youth development.

The study was evaluated as an effectiveness-implementation hybrid through a rigorous randomized controlled trial in combination with a qualitative exploration of adolescent and parent perspectives regarding implementation of family-based sexual risk avoidance education (SRAE) approaches, as well as changes in adolescent SRAE and positive youth development perceptions and outcomes in relation to intervention exposure.
