Reducing Morbidity and Mortality from Overdose, HIV, and Hepatitis C in Opioid-Using Persons
Funded by: National Institute on Drug Abuse
Project dates: September 2018 - June 2024
Principal Investigator: Braithwaite, Scott
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Linking interventions, such as opioid agonist treatment, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PreP), and hepatitis C screening, to naloxone distribution has the potential to prevent infection and morbidity and mortality and avoid costly treatments related to opioid use disorder. In order to weigh tradeoffs systematically and to inform future overdose prevention programs, the study employed a decision analytic model to compare alternative strategies for linking opioid agonist treatment, HIV prevention, and HCV screening interventions to opioid overdose prevention.
