National HIV Behavioral Surveillance – New York City
Funded by: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Project dates: February 2008 - January 2011
Principal Investigator: Hagan, Holly
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In 2008, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continued a nationwide surveillance system intended to track changes in HIV-related risk behavior over time among three groups at highest risk for HIV: men who have sex with men (MSM), injection drug users (IDUs), and high-risk heterosexuals (HRH). The project was the NYC component of the NHBS survey; MSM, IDUs and HRH were surveyed in one-year phases over the duration of the three-year project. The information learned from monitoring HIV risk behavior and HIV prevalence helped guide both local and national HIV prevention efforts.
