BIO
Luis Gonzalez Corro is originally from rural Panama. He completed his medical education at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, Cuba. He went on to residency in New York City at the Primary Care and Social Internal Medicine program at Montefiore/Albert Einstein in the Bronx. Subsequently he completed a postdoctorate fellowship in clinical research and adult Infectious Diseases at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and most recently became an Assistant Professor of Infectious Diseases at New York University and attending physician at Bellevue Hospital. Additionally he is part of the Vaccine Center at NYU Langone and is currently a fellow in the HIV equity research fellowship. Dr. Gonzalez Corro’s research interests include access to HIV and Hepatitis C treatment for marginalized populations with substance use disorders, as well as the intersection of Community-Based Participatory Research, research-based advocacy, implementation science and their translation to policy. Given his lived experiences as an Afro-Latinx physician, Dr. Gonzalez Corro is committed to using medicine as a tool for advocacy, equity, and social justice.
